Pokaini Forest is connected with unusual beliefs and superstitions. It is located 80 km southwest of Riga, Latvia. Its mystical side still remains unsolved: rocks are arranged in a particular sequence; rocks on one hill face the four cardinal points indicating a compass. Many of the stones are warm to the touch, and supposed to possess healing properties; oaks look like pines whose branches with foliage grow almost on one side only; the temperature in the forest is always higher than that of the environment-heat from below is distributed throughout the body, warming even in the bitter cold. Myth and mystery coexist here.
