The river flowed sparkling through the forest. Water nymphs and sprites lived in the river. They had a beautiful princess and went up and down the river to find a suitable husband for her. Near a waterfall some nymphs found a handsome young man who was covered with bright water-drops; he was sitting on a large boulder and playing beautiful music on a pipe. “Who are you?” they asked him. “I’m the keeper of waterfalls!” said the young man. “Would you come down the river with us?” they asked, “Princess Sprite would love to hear your music!” And the young man went along to play for Princess Sprite. She was charmed with his music and fell in love with him. The young man too had fallen in love with the beautiful princess. A splendid wedding was celebrated in the river. Princess Sprite and the keeper of waterfalls lived happily thereafter.
