Proterozoic Eon

Proterozoic eon is the third and last eon of the Precambrian time.

Time Period: This eon extends from 2.5 billion to 600 million years ago.

Features:
♦ During this eon, the Earth started getting its present day shape and landforms arose. The Earth experienced global glaciation for the first time.
♦ Life began to appear from simple single-cell organisms to more advanced single-cell organisms, which led to a diversification in the types of organisms found in the ocean. This increased the amount of oxygen in the atmosphere.
♦ The oldest fossils include: algae, jellyfish and worms.
♦ Stromatolite is one of the oldest forms of blue green algae, present today. They are found in abundance in Sharks Bay in western Australia.
