Ptem & Gaat Sah

Ptem-&-Gaat-Sah

Ptem and Gaat Sah are wedding customs celebrated in Cambodia.

Do you know: The two singers who perform the Gaat Sah symbolize heavenly creatures.

Ptem is a ‘knot ceremony’, where knots are tied to a string bracelet symbolizing the blessings and good wishes of the elders for the bride and the groom. The GaatSah is a ‘Cutting hair’ ceremony where two singers dance around the bride and the groom, who sit next to each other, cutting their hair and apply perfume to the couple to clean them of their past life. Family and guests then repeat this custom.
