Podge, the little lamb, was in trouble! He had wandered off outside the pen and fallen into a muddy ditch. Sally, the duck, heard him squealing and waddled across to find out what had happened. She quacked and squawked and raised an alarm. The farm animals collected around the ditch wondering how they were going to get poor Podge out. He was covered with mud and splashed around getting more and more dirty! Finally Hugo, the horse, had an idea. “Hang on to my tail, Dowser,” he told the sheepdog, “If we form a chain, Podge can hold the last tail and I’ll pull him out!” So with Gemma, the cow, holding Hugo’s tail and Dowser holding on to Gemma’s, they backed into the ditch. Podge held Dowser’s tail and they pulled. Out he came with a PLOP! They dunked him in the water-tub. Podge never went near the ditch again!
