Once, Sheikh Chilli was wandering near a field full of pumpkins. He had never come across something like this before, so he asked the farmer what they were. The farmer knew about Sheikh being a simpleton, so he joked that they were some kind of earth eggs. Sheikh wondered, ‘What could be inside these eggs?’ His mother had once told him that babies of some kind live inside eggs. The farmer tricked Sheikh and sold one pumpkin to him. He said that he would help Sheikh hatch that egg. Then he asked Sheikh to sit on the egg, actually a pumpkin, and wait for it to hatch. Sheikh sat there for two days. The farmer kept getting food for him, but also called people to show them how stupid Sheikh was. On the third day, Sheikh was too tired and sleepy. He fell down on the pumpkin. The pumpkin broke into pieces and a baby deer watching near by ran away with fright. Sheikh thought this was the baby who had hatched from the egg and ran after it crying, “Come back, my baby!”
