Purple-headed Glossy Starling

The Lamprotornis purpureiceps (scientific name) or purple-headed glossy starling is endemic to Africa, specifically the West and Central African region. The purple-headed glossy starling is a total of 9 inches in length. With the male and the female being identical, these birds have metallic purple heads and bodies. Its wings are a lovely glossy metallic green which shines over the darker plumage of the body. With a short tail, these birds are striking because of their dark glossy colouring and bright yellow eyes. Their diet is comprised of fruits and other plant matter, but they are also known to eat insects. An average clutch has 3-5 eggs incubated for 14 days in nests made in tree-cavities. Its IUCN listing is the LEAST CONCERN.
