RAJIV’S MARRIAGE WITH SONIA

On 25th February 1968, Rajiv and Sonia tied in nuptial knot. From then onwards Sonia became Sonia Gandhi. After the marriage, the settled in India with Rajiv, and both of them were busy in their house-hold life. Rajiv’s greates possion was flying, so, after two years from marriage he joined the safdarjung Flying Club. He complted his training and got the commierical piolot licence. As a pilot he had a very good reputation. It was clear that polities did not inteest him as a carer, so his mother had no objection of his becoming commercial pilot. Later Rajiv also completed his training to fly Boeing 707. In few months he became a proficient pilot and was counted among the best pilot’s India had. Rajiv liked to to for a long drive wit hisfamily. He also liked photography and was an excelletn photograper himself. By this time he was still uninterested in politics.
ENTRY INTO POLITICS
Sanjay’s death in an air crash in 1980 completely changed the mind of Rajiv. Indiraji left alone because she firstly gave permission to Sanjay to join politics; and now he was no more. Pressure on Rajiv started mounting to help his mother. He resisted these pressures at first, but later surrandered to them.
Once Guru Shankaracharya arived in Teen Murti Bhavan to cousole Indiraji on beaving the sad denise of Sanjay. Indiraji gave him a warms welcome and requsted him to take the place. After that she called rajiv and Sonia. Both of them greeted the Guru by gowing on his feet Guru Shankaracharya suggested Indiraji that Rajiv stuned give-up his job with Indian Airlines. He sand that he had been unmatched qualities in him so he should join you to shoulder the responsbility to save the nation. Rajiv was listening him patiently and with full concentration. He wanted to fill the vacant place left by his younger brother everybody was proposing his name; but Indiraji said “Rajiv had to decide on his own, I will not eap my decision on him.”
At last Rajiv decided to enter politics to assist his mother. In 1981, he presided over “Kisan rally” in Delhi. About 50 lakh farmers attendd the rally. He spoke first time on such a big occasion adn won the heart of every farmer present in the rally. With the support of his colleagues, Rajiv tayed out a programme. Under this programme, he had to visit each and every state. He met with peoples during his visit and tried to realise the situations of different states. He was worried about the well-being of th people and also made arangements to overcome them. He encoureged the people around him to express their views without any hestitation. He also tried his best to give a new shope to the motives of Congress.
He wanted India to be strong, powerful. He wanted India to progress at a much faster pace and reach to a prominent place in the world.
