After Lakshmana’s departure Rama said to Bharata, “I will arrange for your coronation, Bharata. It’s time for me to leave this mortal body.”
Bharata replied thus, “O Brother! Our parents, my sister-in-law Seeta and brother Lakshmana have departed. Life will be of no use to me in your absence.”
Thereupon Rama told Bharata lovingly, “Man has to depart after his work on the earth is over; this is the truth.” Thereafter, Rama accompanied by the subjects of Ayodhya went to the banks of river Sarayu.
Rama said to Hanuman, “After my departure you shall have to spread righteousness to every nook and corner of the earth. May you live as long as my name is taken or my story told anywhere on the earth!” Hanuman felt blessed because he knew in his heart of hearts that Rama’s glory would be sung till eternity. Rama blessed Hanuman with immortality. Thanks to Hanuman, the Ramayana is read and recited in the various parts of the world, in homes and temples, in various languages.
