Sri Rama was surprised to see Lakshmana enter the room against his clear orders. But when he heard that Sage Durvasa had come, he came out to meet him. Bowing to the great sage, Rama offered him the hospitality of the palace. Durvasa had fasted for a thousand years and this was the day he was to break his fast. So, Sri Rama arranged a great feast to him, serving him personally. Sage Durvasa was extremely happy and satisfied with the conduct of Rama and the way he served him. He blessed Rama before returning to his ashrama. After he had left, Rama looked at Lakshmana and his eyes were filled with tears. This beloved brother had served him all through his difficult years in exile and fought side by side with him, carried out all his commands! Now he had violated the order of privacy and now he faced the death penalty!
