Abhimanyu’s killing was a very ignoble act, violating the rules of the war. Sanjaya reported it with disgust to Dhritarashtra. Yuyutsu, one of Dhritarashtra’s sons, was so angry and ashamed of his brothers and their friends, that he threw down his arms and left the battlefield. Yudhishthira mourned for Abhimanyu, miserable that it was he who sent him into the chakravyuha to his death. Arjuna returned with Krishna to a silent camp. He was shattered by the news of his son’s death. Krishna tried to comfort him. Yudhishthira told him about the whole event, not leaving out his own guilt in sending Abhimanyu into the chakravyuha. He also told Arjuna how Jayadratha had prevented them from helping Abhimanyu. Grief-stricken Arjuna vowed to kill Jayadratha. A prophecy was that a great warrior would behead Jayadratha. Jayadratha’s father cursed that whoever caused his son’s head to roll on the ground, his head would burst into pieces.
