The red face hermit crab is not a true crab and is found living in estuaries, intertidal areas and reefs. It has 5 pairs of legs and a long, soft, spirally curved abdomen protected by salvaged empty shells of molluscs. They feed on mussels, small plankton, worms, dead plants and animals. Eggs are carried and hatched in a mass.
