True to its name, the red Indianfish is brown to reddish-orange in colour with dark blotches. It has a compressed body and a long dorsal fin, stretching its entire length. It lacks pelvic fins and scales. It grows up to 35 cm long and weighs 0.851 kg. This slow-moving, territorial fish feeds on shrimps and other crustaceans. Its lifespan is 45 years.
