Reinhold Messner was born on 17th September 1944 in Brixen, Italy and he still lives there today. An Italian mountaineer, adventurer, explorer and author Reinhold Messner is the first to climb all the 14 independent mountains on the Earth that are more than 8,000 metres high. He has climbed Mount Everest without bottled oxygen, crossed Antarctica on skis and in 2004, completed a 2,000-km expedition through the Gobi desert. He has also done a solo climb to Nanga Parbat. There are 14 peaks on the Earth with summits in the ‘dealth zone’. At the age of 42, he became the first person to climb them all.
