Rescuing Hilda

Hilda was a beautiful little fairy who lived inside a mushroom, but she was not very sensible.
One day, Hilda went for a party in the garden. Fireflies lit it up. Lots of fairies, elves, gnomes and pixies were singing and dancing. They drank lots of dew and honey and ate fairy cakes and muffins. They danced till they were dizzy.
A wicked witch was watching them. She wanted a pretty fairy as a servant. When she saw Hilda, she decided to kidnap her. Waiting till they had all fallen asleep, she picked up Hilda and flew off on her broom.
One of the gnomes, Mugsy, was not asleep and saw her taking Hilda. He was not handsome. He loved little Hilda but had been too shy to tell her.
Mugsy woke all the others up and told them about Hilda being kidnapped by the witch. A search began with the fairies and the pixies flying in all directions looking for the witch’s hideout. The elves and the gnomes began to ask all the animals and the birds if anyone had seen the witch taking a pretty little fairy on a broom.

Finally, it was a crow who told them about Pozen, the wicked witch. He had heard from his cousin, Kawk, who lived with the witch and her cat, Gene, in a haunted house. She had brought a fairy a few days ago.
Mugsy decided to go there and bring Hilda back. At first the others were afraid, but when they saw that Mugsy would go alone, they too went with him. Since elves and gnomes couldn’t fly, the pixies called all their bird friends to carry them.
One day, Gene saw a whole lot of birds flying towards the haunted house. She thought she’d have a feast eating all the birds. But they all stopped on treetops.
That night, a huge army of fairies and pixies, elves and gnomes and the birds invaded the witch’s house. She threw spells at them, but while she managed to stun some of them, she couldn’t damage them. They were so many that her spells got confused.

Mugsy ran in and found Hilda imprisoned in an old teapot. He opened it and told her to fly away, but she wouldn’t leave him behind. So, they ran out of the door and into the forest, calling to the others. Soon the whole ‘army’ was flying back, with Hilda safe! Now Hilda and Mugsy were the best of friends.
