Rhodes is an old town that is enclosed by medieval walls having seven gates. It is situated in Greece. The city was built around 408 BC and fortified by the 8th century.
Why it is special: The Old City of Rhodes is rich in history and culture and takes a person back to an era where one can’t help remembering the knights, who were the last of the Christian holdouts in a Muslim dominated land. The city is formed like an island surrounded by walls and a moat on one end. Some key features of the city include the Grandmaster’s palace, which is beautiful and awe-inspiring with its intimidating walls; the street of the Knights and the temple of Aphrodite from the 3rd century.
