Rising Matchstick Trick (Creative Chemistry Experiments)

You will need:

1. A matchbox
2. Matchsticks
3. Coin

Here is another party trick. Ask people to
remove a coin from under a matchstick without
touching the matchstick which is placed on it.

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Take a matchstick and bend it at 45 degrees. Place the matchstick on a matchbox in such a way that the bent angle is facing upwards.
2. Next, take a coin and place it near the matchbox.
3. Take another matchstick and place
   it on top of the coin with its head
   leaning into the bent matchstick.
4. Ask people to try and remove the coin, without touching the matchstick.
5. When everyone is stumped, simply light a matchstick and ignite the two matchsticks which are touching.
6. Blow out the fire slowly, not allowing the matchstick to burn completely.

RESULT

As soon as you blow out the fire, the
heads of the two matchsticks melt
together, and lift the matchstick which is
placed on the coin. You can now slide the coin from under the matchstick, without dropping the matchstick.
