Robert Peary

Robert-Peary

Robert Edwin Peary was born on 6th May 1856 in Pennsylvania and he died on 20th February 1920 (aged 64 years) in Washington DC. Robert reached the Geographic North Pole with his expedition on 6th April 1909. Robert Peary made his first expedition to the Arctic hoping to cross by a dog-sled. He and a companion travelled nearly a 100 miles before turning back due to lack of food. He made it finally in the expedition in 1909.

Do you know: Robert Edwin Peary’s claim was debated as the same was claimed by Frederick Cook who said that he got there a year earlier. It is suspected that he may have been 30-60 miles short of the Pole, but he’s still given credit for the same.
