George lived in a big and beautiful house with his parents. He was the only child in his family. He had everything in the house but he still felt very lonely. He always looked sad and anything in the house couldn’t help him to cheer him up. One day, his parents went shopping and brought him a butler robot. George was happy to have it. The robot did everything like cooking, cleaning, ironing. It also gathered all the old clothes, which George didn’t like, from his bedroom floor.
One night, George went to sleep, leaving his bedroom in a truly terrible condition. The next morning, when he woke up he saw everything was perfectly clean and tidy. In fact, it was so clean that George couldn’t find his favourite toy and t-shirt. He tried to find them everywhere but they were nowhere to be seen.
Day after day, George started losing his things. ‘Since the day, the butler robot came to our house, my clothes and other things have started disappearing. That means the robot is the thief,’ he thought. From that moment, George kept an eye on the butler robot and followed him everywhere. After hours, George finally caught it red-handed, hiding one of his toys. He started shouting and walked into his parents’ bedroom. “Mom! There is something wrong with the robot. I think it is badly programmed or broken from inside,” he said.
“What happened?” Mom asked him. Then, George told her everything but his parents didn’t believe him. George went off and decided to collect some proofs. One day, George was complaining and the robot was listening to all his complaints.
After a while, the robot went off and returned with George’s toy and t-shirt. “Sir, I did not know that it was bothering you,” said the butler in its metallic voice. “You have stolen my things for weeks,” George replied angrily. Then, the robot said, “I found many things lying in your bedroom like a waste. So, I calculated that you do not need them. I am programmed to collect all useless things, and the next morning I gave it to those people who actually needed them.”
George felt ashamed. He had spent many years of his life treating things as though they were useless. He never cared about them. Yet, it is true that many people need those things which we treat like a waste. Finally, George understood that the robot was programmed really well. Since then, George looked after each of his toys, clothes and other things.
