The rose fish is bright red, flattened sideways with a large bony head, large eyes, large mouth and jaws with many teeth. They grow up to 1 metres long and are viviparous, attaining sexual maturity at 9-10 inches of length. They feed on small fish, invertebrates and crustaceans. There lifespan is 60 years.
