Scientific name : Saiga tatarica

Family : Bovidae

Native to : Russia, Kazakhstan and Western Mongolia. Some Kazakhstan herds migrate to Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan during winter

Interesting fact : Hunted for its horns; it has a shotgun named after it.

Conservation status : Critically Endangered

It is a very distinctive looking herbivorous antelope, with a large, proboscis-like nose which hangs down over its mouth. In summer, the saiga antelope has a thin cinnamon-buff coat compared to its winter coat which is almost entirely white and almost twice as long and thick as its summer coat.
