Spring had arrived by the time they reached the seaside. They still had no clue about Seeta. If they returned without the information, Prince Angad said Sugreeva would be angry and would kill him. He decided to fast unto death. When the Prince fasted, how could the others eat? They all sat in despair waiting for death. Near by sat an old vulture, Sampaati, brother of Jatayu, whose wings had been burnt off when he had tried to shield Jatayu from the sun’s rays. He saw the army and looked forward to a good meal if they died. He overheard them talking about Dasharatha’s son Rama, the search for Seeta, and Jatayu’s death. He forgot his own hunger and called out to them. Using his keen vision, he told them Seeta was in Lanka, surrounded by rakshasis. Miraculously, his wings grew back as it had been predicted they would when he helped Rama.
