Samuel de Champlain was born 13th August 1574 in Brouage, France, and he died on 25th December 1635 (aged 61 years) in Quebec, Canada. An explorer and cartographer who is considered the founder of the Canadian city of Quebec, Samuel helped colonize French North America. Sailing to Canada he became the first European to explore the area, now New York, the site of Montreal, its rapids and further ahead also carrying out fur trade with the local tribes.
