San Gimignano is small hill town surrounded by medieval stonewalls in the Tuscany area of Italy. Walking through Piazza della Cisterna, the triangular town square surrounded by medieval houses actually puts you back in the 13th century. The town square has a well that dates back to 1364 and even a part of the paving dates back to the same era. It is also known as the ‘Town of fine towers’. It is the ancient Gothic and Romanesque stone architecture and the well-preserved medieval buildings that make the town a very unique place and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. San Gimignano is also famous for its saffron and golden ham.
