The untidy-looking ginger-haired cat had wandered into Sarah’s home one night and stayed there. It didn’t look so untidy. And it kept watching Sarah, sitting on the warm stove most of the day. Sarah worked hard. She baked biscuits and cakes and sold them in the village market. One day, Prince Stephen rode up and asked her, “I’ve lost my way and I’m hungry. Could I have some food, please?” Sarah gave him bread and cake and a glass of warm milk. Then, he slept off. Sarah heard a whisper from the stove, “Come here!” Frightened, Sarah looked at the cat. “Was it you who spoke?” she asked. “I did!” said the cat, turning into a red-haired lady! “I am your Fairy Godmother,” she said. She waved a wand and Sarah became a princess and the cottage became a mansion! When the Prince awoke, he fell in love with her and they were married!
