It is an evergreen perennial that forms a clump of rounded basal leaves with white veins. The stem is branched and leafy. It bears silvery-blue flower-heads with narrow, spiny silver bracts. The foliage is white, variegated, dark-green in summer. Foliage is evergreen in warm winter climates. Bloom time is June to August. The plant is compact enough to include in the rock garden, in the sunny border or in containers. Plants are very tolerant of hot, dry sites once established.
