The seahorse has a horse-like head and lives in seagrass beds, estuaries and coral reefs. They grow 1.5-35.5 cm long and swim upright. Bony but scale-less, they have flexible necks, long snouts and eyes that move independent of each other. They rest with their prehensile tails wound around stationary objects. They feed on small crustaceans, invertebrates and larval fish.
