Set an Example

Once, there lived a poor man and his son in a village. The son was fond of sweets. His father was very worried about this habit of his son. One day, the father took his son to a saint. People in the village used to say that the saint had holy powers. The father told the saint about his problem. The saint said, “I will meet your son after one month.” The saint himself loved sweets a lot. He thought, ‘Before asking the boy to stop eating sweets, I should myself stop it.’ After one month, when the saint met the boy, he persuaded him, “Son, your father is a poor man. You should understand this and should stop asking for sweets all the time.” The boy understood and never asked for sweets again. The saint told the man what he did in the last one month. He said, “A person should first set an example before asking someone else to follow something.”
