Sharks are the huge group of ferocious fish found in both cold and warm waters. They live at a depth of 2,000 m or below in the oceans. A shark typically has a tough skin that is dull grey in colour and is roughened by tooth-like scales. It has a cartilaginous skeleton. In general, sharks do not live in fresh water, with the exception of the bull shark and the river shark. There are more than 400 living species of sharks. A few species, such as blue sharks, spend most of their time in the open ocean, whereas other species inhabit warmer, murky coastal waters. The Great White sharks are the largest and scariest sharks.
The baby of a shark is called a pup.
