Sheikh Chilli worked in a doctor’s clinic as his assistant once. He observed the doctor and knew the names of medicines. Once he himself suffered from fever and cured himself by taking a tablet. This made Sheikh think that he could practise as a doctor. When his mother saw him cleaning the store room, she asked him what he was up to. He told her that he would treat patients now, as he knew a lot about ailments. He said, dreamily, “Oh Mother! Don’t worry. Now the hard times will be over. We will have a lot of money. We will buy a huge bungalow; this small house is not good enough for us now. With all my money, we will get a big hospital and I will…” Sheikh’s mother shook him up to wake him from his dream! “Go and get some vegetables from the market instead of daydreaming, you fool! One cannot practise as a doctor without studying for it,” she scolded.
