The shovel-headed mullet lives in sandy shores, tide pools and rocky areas. They grow up to 46 cm long and live in large schools. They are grey with silvery flanks and white bellies. Pectoral fins are dark with bright yellow spots. Their diet is made of plants, seaweed, zooplankton and algae. They reproduce oviparously.
