The Sigiriya Fort was built in Sri Lanka between 477 BC and 495 BC. An ancient rock fortress built on a formation almost 200 metres in height, the Palace was on the top of the rock, with frescoes decorating the entire side. Halfway up the rock, on a plateau the gateway for the palace was built. It resembled an enormous lion, giving the fortress its name-Sigiriya or the Lion Rock.
Amazing Fact: The two unique features of the fort include the gardens (considered to be the oldest landscaped gardens in the world) and a ‘mirror’ wall.
