Six Trees

Six trees stand equally spaced along one side of a straight road. The distance from the first tree to the fourth is 60 feet. What is the distance in feet between the first and last trees?
The widths of the trees can be omitted.
Hint
It is not 40 feet.
How many gaps exist between the first and the fourth tree?

Answer
There are 3 gaps between the first and the fourth tree; therefore, each gap is 20 feet.
There are 5 gaps between the first and the last (i.e. sixth) tree, which is 100 feet.
