It has the name ‘snowshoe’ because of the large size of its hind feet and the marks its tail leaves. Its fur is white during winter and rusty brown during summer, and it has black tufts on the edge of the ears. Snowshoe hares are carnivorous mammals; however, due to the unavailability of meat they may eat plant, tree barks, or grass.
