The South African praying mantis is about 32-60 mm in length. Their diet consists of other insects. In its natural habitat this insect is found hiding under leaves. Even though they are native to South Africa, they were also found in New Zealand in 1978, and are considered a menace since they are displacing the native praying mantis species of New Zealand.
