Spinning Separator (Chemistry Experiments)

In this experiment, we will try to separate the floating parts of a suspension by spinning.
Things Required:
Hammer
Nail
Clear drinking glass
1-lb. metal coffee can
Cotton string
2 tablespoonfuls of flour

Directions:
Use the hammer and nail to make two holes across from each other beneath the top rim of the can. Tie the ends of a two-foot piece of string in these holes. Fill the can one-half full with water. Stir the flour into the water. Carry the can and the empty glass outside. Hold the string and swing the can around 15 times. Pour a small amount of the liquid into the empty glass. If it looks cloudy, swing 10 more times. Continue to swing and test for cloudiness until the liquid stops changing.
This Is What Happens:
The solution clears.
Science Behind It:
Flour and water is a mixture of a liquid and solid. The mixed parts do not dissolve and the solid particles settle to the bottom. Spinning speeds this settling process. Spinning produces a strong outward force. This force pushes the floating flour particles to the bottom of the can.
