Stalactites and Stalagmites are natural features present in caves. These are deposits of minerals which form on cave roof, cave floor or near cave walls. Stalactites hang from the ceilings of caves like icicles, while stalagmites resemble traffic cones that look like emerging from the ground. These features form when water droplets containing some amount of lime and other minerals drip down from the cracks on the cave ceiling. While dripping down some part of water gets evaporated, leaving behind lime deposits. These lime deposits gather to form hanging structures called stalactites. When the dripping water reaches cave floor, it gives rise to thick columns called stalagmites which are of short height.
The stalactites which have copper in them give a beautiful bluish green appearance.
Icicle: It is a formation of ice which resembles a pendent spear. It is formed when the water dripping from an object freezes.
