Stanley always wanted to keep a pet, but his father did not allow him to. “Having a pet at home is a huge responsibility. Besides, they dirty the house and create nuisance!” his father said often. This made Stanley very sad as he loved animals a lot. One day, Stanley saw a baby duckling in the lake near the park where he used to play. It was all alone and quacked miserably! Stanley felt sorry for it and quietly took the duckling home with him. “I’ll take good care of you,” he said to the duckling. That night, when Stanley was sleeping, the duckling started quacking loudly. He woke up and realised that there was smoke coming from another room. He woke his parents up and they called the fire engine. When his father found that a duckling’s warning had saved their house, he said, “Stanley, I will never stop you from being kind to animals again.” Stanley was very happy.
