Steam Engine

The credit of the invention of the steam engine goes to a number of British inventors. The first basic steam engine was built by Thomas Savery in 1698. Afterwards, the atmospheric steam engine came into existence. It was Thomas Newcomen who used atmospheric pressure where pressure intensity had no limitation and the model was applied to pull out water from the coal mine. This improvement in the first design of the engine by Savery gave way to another model called the Watt’s engine.

James Watt, a Scottish mechanical engineer in the year 1765, along with an English manufacturer, redesigned and improved Newcomen’s engine. His idea of cooling down the steam engine by connecting a cylinder with a valve was patented soon after it was designed by him.

Thomas Savery’s first invention and his contri-bution in Newcomen’s atmospheric steam engine were historic episodes in the designing of the steam engine and its commercial application.
