The steelhead trout is dark-olive with a heavily speckled body and pink-red stripes along the side. They grow up to 120 cm long and weigh up to 25 kg. They feed on zooplankton, aquatic and terrestrial insects, molluscs, crustaceans, eggs of fish, minnows and small fish. They are popular as food in Western cuisine. Lifespan is 11 years.
