The stonefish looks like a piece of stone with its hard brown surface and red, orange or yellow patches. It grows 30-40 cm long and weighs 2,400 gram. It has 13 venomous spines on the dorsal area, each with two venom sacs. The venom is injected when stepped on. It feeds on small fish, shrimp and crustaceans. Its lifespan is 5-10 years.
