The striped surgeonfish is a treat to theeyes with its alternating blue and yellow horizontal stripes. They live in groups in shallow reef flats, slopes and gutters. It grows to 35 cm long and has a blade-like, venomous spine in the tail. They are herbivores, feeding on plankton and algae, sometimes on crustaceans. Lifespan is 10 years.
