It measures 45-71 cm and has a 12-18 cm long tail, and weighs about 3 kg in spring and 6.5-7.0 kg in autumn. Its coat is earth-brown or brownish-grey colour with black guard hair, with a tail darker than the torso. Its fur has been harvested and sold illegally; it is known as murmansky, as faux fur. They are, however, not related to raccoons.
