It is similar in shape to a pig. Their coats are short and range in colour from reddish-brown to grey to nearly black. Their size varies between types, but most tapirs are about 2 metres long, stand about 1 metre high at the shoulder, weigh between 150 and 300 kg and have a natural life span of approximately 25 to 30 years.
