Teira batfish have rounded, strongly compressed bodies with short, dark, vertical bars through the eyes and behind the operculum. They are yellow silver or dusky and grow to 27.5 inches long. Adults have bony humps on their foreheads. Spawning is in the open ocean. This omnivore feeds on plankton, sessile small invertebrates and marine algae. Lifespan is up to 5 years.
