Once a foreign horse trader came to visit king Krishnadeva Raya in his court and told about the horses he had for sale.
They sounded so good that the king offered buying them. On hearing this, the trader took 5,000 gold coins as the advance money and said he would return with his horses in two days and left. Later that evening, the king saw Tenali Raman write on a piece of paper.
He asked him what Raman was writing, to which Raman replied, “I am adding the name of the biggest fool in the kingdom.” Hearing this, the king was angry as he saw Raman write the king’s name on the top.
He asked Raman the reason of it. Raman replied that the mere fact the king gave someone unknown so much money and expected him to return was absolute foolishness. When the king said, there was a possibility of him to return, Raman wittingly replied, “I would replace your name with his then.”
