Teotihuacan is an ancient Mesoamerican city that has been considered a UNESCO world heritage site since 1987. It is situated in the Valley of Mexico, in the state of Mexico. The city was established 100 BC and is construction is said to have lasted until 250 AD.

Why it is special: Teotihuacan is considered to be the largest city in Pre-Columbian America with the most architecturally important Mesoamerican Pyramids to have ever been constructed. At its zenith the city was probably the sixth largest city in the world with a thriving population of more than 1,25,000. The city attracts tourists in large numbers who come to see the intricate complex of multi-family residential compounds, the avenue of the Dead and vibrant well-preserved murals.
