Dorothy’s mother had warned her not to buy anything from Mrs. Growell’s shop, but the cookies had smiley faces on them. Dorothy happily bought them. At home, Dorothy bit into one cookie. Weird! The smiley faces were frowning. It tasted terrible, so she threw all of them away. At night, she dreamt that the cookies had marched into her room and turned her into a cookie! She screamed and her parents came running. When she told them what had happened, her mother said, “Dorothy, I told you not to go to her shop.” Dorothy somehow went back to sleep. In the morning, when she was making her bed, she saw the cookies, broken into bits, lying on the bedsheet. She ran to the kitchen dustbin and peered inside. The cookies were gone! She realised that the dream may not have been a dream, after all. She had been saved when she threw away the cookies.
