Alice lived near the forest with her parents and grandparents. One night, Alice was alone at home as everyone had gone for a party. Alice sat by the window, reading a book. Just then, she heard a howling sound, like a wolf’s. Scared, she moved away from the window into the kitchen. However, the howl was so loud that it seemed to follow her in all the rooms. For an hour, Alice moved throughout the house and could not understand where the sound was coming from. Finally, right before her family returned, the howling stopped. Terrified, Alice told her mother about the howling. Her mother said, sadly, “Alice, our family is ‘cursed’ with the cry of the banshee. Every woman in our family has experienced it. If we hear a banshee howling, it means that someone in our family could be injured or may die.” A few days later, Alice’s great grandmother passed away.
