The barber’s sixth brother, Schacabac, too got 100 silver drachmas as inheritance but he lost them due to his carelessness. He wanted to make a living by scrounging on rich people. One day, he entered a mansion and met master Barmecide and implored him for charity. Barmecide invited him to eat the food and wine on the dining table whereas in reality, there was nothing.
On the pretext of being drunk, he hit him hard on his head. Barmecide pleaded him for mercy and explained that he was being tested for humor. Thereafter Schacabac was offered a real feast daily for 20 years. When Barmecide died, his son inherited all his wealth and Schacabac was driven out.
He travelled to Mecca and was captured by thugs who tortured him for several days before releasing him. The barber searched for him and brought him back to Baghdad.
After all brothers had died, he came across the hunchback who died in his house when a fishbone struck his throat. In the Sultan’s presence, he performed a trick to bring the hunchback to life.
The Sultan became so pleased with the story that he rewarded the tailor, the doctor, the purveyor and the merchant.
